The Rotary Club of Amherst North is partnering with a Rotary Club in Ecuador on a project to make needed repairs at a school. We are applying for a matching grant from Rotary International so that any money we raise for this project is matched by Rotary International. The Rotary club in Ecuador is arranging for local contractors to donate their time on the project so that the money raised will go as far as possible to purchase needed construction materials. If you are interested in helping with this project or have questions, please email Jorge Velasco at jvelasco@acsu.buffalo.edu.

The Rotary Club of Amherst North officially chartered the Sweet Home High School Interact Club. Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people. Made up of members between the age of 14-18, Interact gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects. Interact clubs perform at least two projects a year, with one serving the community and the other furthering international understanding. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. The Sweet Home High School Interact Club has already completed their international project which involved collecting supplies to be sent to a needy school in Ecuador. They also plan to hold a seniors dance in the Spring of 2002 in which they will invite senior citizens from the area for an enjoyable evening of music and dance. If you would like to find out more about Interact, please contact Ted Purvis by email at pita805@aol.com.
